Like an encounter between Karen Blixen and Indiana Jones

Main House

The beating heart of the hotel,
the awe-inspiring arena of adventure
and the perfect stage for storytelling

Welcome inside the historic Main House of The Falcon Hotel. Here, you’ll discover inspiration hiding in the old cracks in the wooden floors, awakening your lust for adventure. Nearly everything has been redesigned, while still leaving room for curious artefacts and rare animals. The style itself is colonial chic... or rather an intense meeting between Karen Blixen and Indiana Jones.

The first floor features seven rooms with ensuite bathrooms, four of which boast a view of the Baltic Sea, while the others look out onto our Cliff Garden. No two rooms are identical – yet all contain that famous Danish coziness known as ’hygge’. On the ground floor, Mette or Annika will help you out with keys or finding the best nature spots to explore. It’s also here that you’ll enjoy breakfast and dinner, or just let your thoughts wander over a vintage bourbon. In the soft chairs and grand halls, we come together to tell and listen to the fantastical tales that travellers bring with them everywhere like suitcases. Half of what you’ll hear won’t be true, but we won’t tell you which half…

You don’t have to cross borders to experience the best journeys – as long as you push your own boundaries.

Darwin’s Nest

Deep chairs, deep breaths, deep talks - our nest is your nest. In Darwin’s Nest, the 100-year old floors have been dug out and cleared of rusty nails, while the old wooden panels have been polished off. There’s nearly always a fire crackling in the stove, providing a warmth which, coupled with the sea view and deep blue colour on the walls, will feel like a calming embrace that will allow you to get lost in your own thoughts.

Savanna Lounge

Also known as the old Palm Court, this is a lavish lounge with a full sea view. There are seven soft lounge areas decorated in a colonial-chic style, creating an ambience reminiscent of the savanna. Here, you can have your breakfast on the sofa and hang out until lunch if you wish. There is ample room to gather with friends or fellow guests and mix cold drinks with hot topics. However, it also provides the perfect setting for you to get all close and comfy with your partner on a romantic evening. If you’re looking to enjoy some ’me time’, though, why not grab a book or your laptop and make the lounge your place of work and inspiration?

Beluga Ballroom

Hold your breath. Step inside. Let the room absorb you. We’re in the old glass hall with the original parquet floor, recreated columns and its own stage. Throughout history, this hall has heard a bit of everything. Today, a musk ox from Greenland has taken the stage, and if you look up to the ceiling, you’ll see a beluga whale. We can reveal that it is placed in the exact position in which it would swim through the sea. It’s length on the other hand... well, we’ll let you decide for yourself. Before lowering your gaze, notice the line of vividly colored windows and the special shades they send out over the hall. In the Beluga Ballroom, there’s room for 120 people, and both the ox and the whale are present for all the big parties, minor conferences, lectures and meetings held here.

A ruin in the back garden

The Falcon Hotel is situated in Sandvig, surrounded by the raw nature of northern Bornholm. The view over the Baltic Sea is completely undisturbed, both when it’s baring its teeth and when it’s dead calm, which it rarely is. In the town’s back garden you’ll find the rocky area of Hammerknuden, along with the ruins of the old fortress, Hammershus, the views of which you can actually enjoy from the hotel.

During your morning walk you’ll often see birds of prey high up over the area, and in the afternoon the vipers stretch out lazily in the heather between the rocks. In the evening you need to watch out for the ’jylkatte’ - which is the local dialect for ‘porcupines’ - as they emerge from their hiding spots.

Sandvig was originally a fishing and farming village. This is evident from looking at the old farmhouses which today form a charming, integrated part of the town, along with speciality stores, shopping possibilities, cafés and restaurants. The town is well connected by bus to the rest of Bornholm, and by car you can easily get from side to the other. But how about searching for adventure just outside the door of the hotel?

Design your own outdoor adventure

At the hotel we help companies as well as private groups organise wild outdoor experiences. Put on your wetsuit and dive straight from a RIB boat into the sea. Try keep your balance in a narrow ocean kayak when the waves act up. Climb a cliff by foot or by mountain bike with the best guides on the island. Go search for wild herbs and cook your meal over an open fire. Listen to tales of wild animals and experiences from far corners of the world. The adventure is up to you but we’ll always be on hand to help, whether you wish to venture out on your own with a backpack full of good advice, or if you want someone to guide you safely from start to finish.

‘Adventure’ comes from the Latin word ‘adventure’ meaning an event that is often predictable and almost always has a happy ending.
